Dark Entry Forest
Cornwall and Cornwall Bridge, Connecticut
Cascade
Something akin to the Dark Forest of "Harry Potter" fame, this forest, and the ghost town within, is all too real, it seems.
From the site:
INTO THE DARK ENTRY FOREST ON THE ROAD TO DUDLEYTOWN, “THE MOST HAUNTED PLACE ON EARTH.”
Can a family be so cursed that they carry their dark fortunes across an ocean to an entirely different continent? Can the place they settle absorb so much of their bad blood that it forever effects the fates of those who live there? And can that evil follow those unfortunate residents even when they choose to flee this macabre place?
Some swear that there is such a story and such a place. A remote community where the former residents all went mad or succumbed to violent and unnatural deaths. Today, hundreds of years after their passing, it is said that this danger lurks in the woods of northwestern Connecticut. Unexplained orbs of light are seen swirling around in the dark forest where even the local wildlife dares not go. This is the story of Dudleytown—Village of the Damned.

Griffin Grove Inn
836 Tucker Brook Road
Griffin Grove(Hardwick, Vermont)
Cascade
"The Griffin Grove Inn is an alternative 160 acre getaway nestled in the undisturbed forests and hills of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. Our monument to nature and all her glory is perfect for any nature lover wishing to hike through the unspoiled wilderness and relax in its wonders. The Inn is a reminder of times passed when traveling was an experience to savor and not merely a means from getting from one place to another. Overnight respites were a place to enjoy good food and drink and share stories with other travelers and your hosts around fires and under the starry skies. This energy filled paradise is also ideal for earth religion followers looking for undisturbed ritual space with a supportive attmosphere. If you have ever felt too "on the fringe" for a B&B you won't have to ever again." - Quoted from the index page of the Griffin Grove Inn website, formerly at http://www.griffingrove.com/.

Lake Ronkonkoma
Long Island, New York
Cascade
"Lake Ronkonkoma has been the subject of several legends originating from the American Indians who settled on Long Island. The legends were first spread to the white settlers on the Island about the middle of the 17th century. There exists a "recurrent" theme throughout all of the Indian legends surrounding Lake Ronkonkoma. The stories are of "someone who had been thwarted in a love affair and killed himself in the lake". The body would then turn up in another body of water.
The Indians believed in several gods, one being the Great Spirit Manitou whom they referred to as 'Caulkluntoowut, signifying one possessed of the highest power'. The Indians believed Manitou used the lake to express his displeasure through the continuous rise of the lake waters, particularly when anyone was drowned in the lake. However, if the bodies of those who drowned in the lake were found before the lake began to rise and then a beautiful maiden was sacrificed, the god would be appeased. Therefore, the lake would cease to rise preventing a flood on the Island."

Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historic Park
Directly North of Woodstock, Vermont
Cascade
Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park is the only national park to focus on conservation history and the evolving nature of land stewardship in America. Opened in June 1998, Vermont's first national park preserves and interprets the historic Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller property.
The Park is named for George Perkins Marsh, one of the nation's first global environmental thinkers, who grew up on the property, and for Frederick Billings, an early conservationist who established a progressive dairy farm and professionally managed forest on the former Marsh farm. Frederick Billings's granddaughter, Mary French Rockefeller, and her husband, conservationist Laurance S. Rockefeller, sustained Billings's mindful practices in forestry and farming on the property over the latter half of the 20th century. In 1983, they established the Billings Farm & Museum to continue the farm's working dairy and to interpret rural Vermont life and agricultural history.
The park was created in 1992, when the Rockefellers gifted the estate's residential and forest lands to the people of the United States. Today, the Park interprets the history of conservation with tours of the mansion and the surrounding 550-acre forest.

Trap Pond State Park
Laurel, Delaware
Cascade
Freshwater wetlands once covered a large portion of southwestern Sussex County. Trap Pond State Park retains a part of the swamp's original beauty and mystery, and features the northernmost natural stand of baldcypress trees in the United States. The pond was created in the late 1700's to power a sawmill during the harvest of large baldcypress from the area. The Federal Government later purchased the pond and surrounding farmland during the 1930's and the Civilian Conservation Corps began to develop the area for recreation. Trap Pond became one of Delaware's first state parks in 1951. Visitors have many opportunities to explore the natural beauty of the wetland forest. Hiking trails surround the pond, providing opportunities to glimpse native animal species and many flowering plants. Birdwatching is a popular activity and the observant hiker may spot a great blue heron, owl, hummingbird, warbler, bald eagle or the elusive pileated woodpecker. - information researched and provided by Lady Dame FionaBrigit ni NicLeoid, ruler of Cibola

Weir Farm National Historic Site
735 Nod Hill Road
Wilton, Connecticut
Cascade
How does our environment influence our creativity? Weir Farm National Historic Site is a place where visitors and artists can explore this question in many different ways. To American Impressionist painter J. Alden Weir (1852 - 1919), his beloved Connecticut farm provided him with the means to explore his artistic impressions of nature. For 37 years, Weir and visiting friends such as Childe Hassam and John Twachtman painted the gentle rolling hills, rocky pastures, people, and animals of the 153-acre farm. After Weir’s death in 1919, the next two generations to live at the farm were also artists. First, Weir’s daughter Dorothy married sculptor Mahonri Young, who built a second studio on the property. After Young’s death, the farm was sold to artist couple Sperry and Doris Andrews. Each generation enjoyed artistic inspiration at Weir Farm. Each generation also honored and preserved the historic integrity of the landscape. Park visitors today can still see this American Impressionist landscape. At Weir Farm, all are welcome to learn the artists' stories, create their own artwork, or just enjoy strolling around the grounds. The park's partner, the Weir Farm Trust, also provides professional artists with opportunities such as its artist-in-residency program. Weir Farm is a place to explore our artistic past, a place to create art now, and a promise for continued creative inspiration. - information researched and provided by Lady Dame FionaBrigit ni NicLeoid, ruler of Cibola
