Dear Visitor,

On behalf of my nation, I would like to welcome you to the online presence of the Domain and Realms of the Shadows and the Darkness: or just the Domain, for short. You may ask yourself what is the purpose of the Domain. What is the reasoning behind such an undertaking, or the fantasitcal names it incorporates? That is a question that I will do my best to answer here.

For the sake of magick.

Long ago, people believed. People had faith. More then than they do now. Whether they were Christian, pagan, or otherwise, they believed. Magick was a part of everyone's life. Respect for nature and the unknown was paramount. The world itself was a world of wonder. Of belief. Of hope. Of magick.

Then came progress, and the world was made better. Travel between point A and point B became faster. Thoughts could be communicated around the world in a twinkling. Preservation of food, quality of entertainment, enjoyment of life. All that makes modern-day life enjoyable was brought to pass. Which is good for all. But something was lost in the transfer. A price was paid in the bringing about of the modern age. Something that should have walked hand-in-hand with the modern age, but was somehow left behind.

And that is the magick of simply believing: quite possibly the oldest magick in existance.

Mainstreams of belief were formed in the advent of modern-day life,... and those beliefs that didn't fit with the mainstreams were demonized, or changed forever. Much of the histories of those beliefs were lost or destroyed in the name of God, when such wasn't sanctioned. Others were either perverted or converted entirely, so that they had little or no semblance of ther former selves. The rest were relegated to mere fiction. To myth and legend, given as little credence as possible. And for a time, were forgotten.

But the soul itself never forgets.

In this day and age, people are beginning to Awaken. Their souls are beginning to remember the way things were in days gone by. People are starting to believe that there is more to Reality as a whole than just the view in front of their nose. Belief in magick, in the paranormal, in the unknown, in the mystery of life itself, is starting to resurrect into the here and now. People are once again beginning to belive. And yet, there is still the daunting wall of collective disbelief to contend with. To face off with. And to defeat.

And herein lies the purpose of the Domain and Realms: to work towards bringing back such beliefs. Putting their hand in the hand of the modern-day. Adding to life, making the world wondrous and alive as it was so many centuries past. That is the purpose of the Domain and Realms: to help bring more of the magick that was back into the world again.

We are a diverse nation: with citizens spread across half the globe. Our diversity goes far beyond nationality or color of skin. But also spans beliefs.

Some of us serve God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Some of us serve the God and the Goddess.
Some serve the gods of the Norse pantheon.
Or the Greek and Roman pantheons.
Or the Egyptian pantheons.
Or in the gods and goddesses that ruled the lands of Britain, Scotland, and Ireland.
Some believe the the power of dreams.
Some believe in the sanctity of death, and of those crossed over.
Some believe in the keeping of the balance between good and evil.
Some are chaotic in nature.
Some are peaceful.
Some believe that there is indeed life beyond the sphere of Earth: merely a hop, skip, and a dream away.
Some believe in the magick of art and music.
Some believe in the power of the blade.
Others believe in the power of healing and comforting.
Others believe in the power of magick when fighting as warriors on behalf of the innocent and powerless.

What unites us all as a people is the magick of believing. That we all believe that there is more than what we see, and that that single commonality unites us across race lines, national borders, or denominations of religions and beliefs, is what makes us a nation. And while we do name our borders, and the areas in which we live, land isn't really needed. Because that single common link: that we believe, is what makes us one people. One nation. And hopefully, one of but many hopes in the world today, for the sake of the world tomorrow.

The Domain was formed as a micronation, because it was simply the best way to unite us all as a whole, with the above purpose in mind. Micronations, in my view, are a way of uniting people of similar beliefs as one group under one banner, to work towards a common goal. A way that doesnae' necessarily need land to do. When two or more people come together for the same purpose, that alone is power enough. And for the formation of the Domain and Realms, there had to be inspiration. As a Universalist Christian minister, the fact that I encountered so many people of different beliefs and faiths and spiritual paths who felt as I did, saw as I did, and believed in as many things as I did... and vice versa, was the biggest inspiration. The second was a micronation known as the Wiccan Soverignty of AVALON, but is now known as the Principality of Farran Eayst: led by Crowned Prince William II. That he had the courage and strength of mind to form his micronation - the only 'mystick' micronation I found among the hundreds - based on his beliefs in Wicca, was another inspiration for me to form the Domain and Realms. Which came to pass on the Winter Solstice, the Twenty-first of December, in the year 2001: a day which became our first holiday: Foundation Day.

The growth of the Domain was expected to be slow. After all, starting out, we were only a nation of three: myself, High Queen Snowaidene, and Lady Traser SyberJedi ni DarkFyre - ruler of FairyStone. And when it came to the growth of my nation, I always held to the saying, "Rome wasnae' built in a day". For I knew that the Domain and Realms would be no different. It has become a heartening milestone to look and see that, little more than half a year later, we have grown to a population of fifty: spread across the countries of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, and Ireland; with sixteen of the Twenty-seven Realms actively ruled, eight Noble Houses, two Commoner Houses, a growing Library, our own identification cards, a vote currently on a pledge of alleigance, and an educational system in the works. In nine months, with our firstthe Domain and Realms has come so far. Something that could not have been done without my people working with me: both Noble and Commoner alike. It is a proud and heartening day for me every day to look and see so many who have joined the Domain and Realms, because they shared a belief with me and those who founded the Domain with me. To look and see that we can stand as one, and not be seaprated by religion, or nationality, or race. That we are truly one people. Together. It is points in life like that that cause me to say every now and then, "It is good."

Forgive me. I do have a penchant for rambling. but I am quite proud of my nation, and my people. We've come so far, and have so far to go, still. But we go together. We are Domani. And we believe. And if, after reading this letter, you find that you believe as well, then I invite you to join us. Rarely - if ever - do I refuse anyone's application. If you don't wish to join, or would rather wait, that is also fine. Feel free to visit: whether you be a micronationalist, or just someone following where their curiosity leads. Feel free to ask. To learn. To know. With fifty, we've come far. Who knows? Perhaps when you decide to join, we'll go farther still.
